World record kayaker Brandon Nelson, a local home inspector, will attempt to break the flatwater distance Guiness World Record on Lake Whatcom April 13, 2006. His effort is in honor of his mother, Janet Nelson, a former hospice caregiver now receiving hospice care for terminal cancer. All proceeds go to Whatcom Hospice Foundation. The team is seeking financial sponsors and support people on the ground. Brandon's challenge: 144 miles in 24 hous nonstop. He will compete until he beats the South African record.
